Highlight series

The American Documentary Film Festival holds monthly Highlight Series events at various locales in  Palm Springs and around the Coachella Valley from the Spring through the Fall.  As always, tickets are available at the "Buy Tickets Now" link atop each page of this web site, or at the venue box office.

Each month, we feature one or more films that were standouts or audience favorites during our most recent annual Film Festival.  Our 2013 Highlight Series concluded October 10, when we screened a pair of award-winning films in front of a sold-out Palm Springs theatre audience.

We concluded the season by screening our 2013 American Documentary Film Festival Audience Favorite winner from director Lydia B. Smith -- Walking the Camino: Six Ways to Santiago.  It was preceded by the award-winning documentary short film, Sleeping with Siri, from director Marty Riemer.

Walking the Camino is an up-close look at one of humanity’s most time-honored traditions -- walking Spain's Camino de Santiago. By following pilgrims from all walks of life as they attempt to cross an entire country on foot with only a backpack, a pair of boots and an open mind, we witness the Camino’s magnetic and miraculous power to change lives. Driven by an inexplicable calling and a grand sense of adventure, each pilgrim throws themselves heart-and-soul into their physical trek to Santiago and, most importantly, their personal journey to themselves.

Sleeping with Siri, inspired by a high school's Digital Blackout campaign, explores both sides of the technological divide over a 2-week period. Jumping first into the digital madness, journalist Michael A. Stusser explores every single technological opportunity available, 24 hours a day (the Techno-Gorge), Four-squaring, Tweeting and Liking everything in sight. He then drops out entirely for a second week, with no computer, e-mail or social nets, availing himself with the now-lost icons of a bygone era, including phone booths, land-lines, libraries, paper maps and letter writing.

We can't wait to bring you more great films during our 2014 Highlight Series, which is tentatively slated to begin in April 2014.  It will include selections from our 3rd Annual American Documentary Film Festival, which runs from March 27-31, 2014.
